read books to learn or learn to appreciate book

Listening to the book “Origin" by Neils deGrasse Tyson and Donald Goldsmith, I have a feeling that it’s a lot more interesting than what I learned in class before, even learn more than before. But after thinking about it, I find that I won’t be enjoying this book as much if I didn’t learn all those physics back in school. I don’t think I would even pick up this book at the first place if not for what i’ve learned in class.  I haven’t finished this book yet, but I think it’s well written and can be enjoyed by a wide range of people. However, at least for me, my physics background really help me enjoy this book a lot more. Another book, “A brief history of time” by Stephen Hawking, was also one that use layman’s language to discuss some hard physics questions. Reading that book really made me appreciate all that I’ve learned in school. Not only the knowledge, but also the way of thinking helped me go along in the book. I really admire my dad.
